Artist Statement
Both my music and my installations are strongly influenced by the spoken human voice. The musical elements of these voices and the intimateness of the individual expressions are equally fascinating to me. Many of my pieces are experiments in control in that I like to create scenarios in which influence over the results is split in varying ways between myself, people who choose to participate and directed randomness.

I am interested in creating frameworks within which my work emerges. Whether it be a set of instructions which a computer uses to generate melodies and rhythms or a set of instructions which a participant is asked to follow in order to participate, I am drawn to results which surprise even myself as the creator. There is something extremely exciting to me about never knowing exactly what my own work is going to sound like, look like or feel like. I want to create experiences for participants which not only positively affect them as individuals, but leave residuals which can be enjoyed by other participants as part of a certain type of collaborative community. Artistic creation does not have to be a solitary endeavor and "untrained" influences can be incredibly exciting.

In many ways, my work is a remix of individuals - a remix of culture even - which acts as a collage of personal expression while collectively representing my own artistic voice.
